Woman who's been giving water to the neighbor's cat for months gets a surprise visit from the cat momma and her newborn kittens: 'She trusted me enough to bring her babies to my porch'

There's a big debate online about whether outdoor cats vs. indoor cats. Some people believe that cats should be kept inside - for their own safety, and because the lifespans of stray cats are so much shorter than house cats. Others believe that confining cats inside, especially cats who grew up outside and are used to it, is a form of mistreatment in and of itself. Whichever side of the argument you stand on, we think that one thing we can all agree on is that if you do let your cat outside, you should still take care of it properly. Which is something that this cat might not have. 

Letting your cat outside is one thing. Leaving your cat unspayed and allowing your cat to get pregnant, that's something else. There's a reason this cat is visiting the neighbor on such a consistent basis. There's a reason this cat introduced her babies to this person. Because that's where she feels safe, and that's where she believes it's safe to bring them too. Take care of your cats, friends, otherwise, they may go looking for love somewhere else.

    There's a cat in my neighborhood, clearly someone's outdoor cat, not feral, has a collar, that started visiting my porch about six months ago. She'd just sit there for a while, watch me through the window, then leave.

  • We have so many things to say here, but we will start with this: thank you for giving water to this cat. The fact that it is running around out there, unspayed, making babies all over the place, with a collar on its neck leads us to believe that it is not being that well-taken care of at home. So, thank you, she and her babies needed you.

  • We agree with everyone else that is saying that your time is coming. Most likely sooner rather than later, you will be bestowed with at least one kitten, and most likely all three. She's preparing you - and her babies - for that moment. It's going to happen.

    CindySvensson I'm not saying you should steal the cat and kittens. But I am saying the cat felt more comfortable giving birth outside than at "home". Or it did give birth inside but the owner is fine letting a whole ass young litter go outside.
